Would be nice to be able to use image upscaling on video players, as an optional feature you could toggle for any individual video player.

@Psythik30 days from 16. of June? Kkim wrote it will be included in "Firefox 114 (general release by June 6)". I guess you can stick with Firefox now as coincidentally, your set deadline actually works out. 😂

Currently on 114.0b5 developer edition and I can't get it to work after toggling that pref, tried it in nightly as well and nothing changed, not even the GPU usage goes up, meanwhile VSR in Edge, VLC and that one MPC-HC fork work just fine so it's not my driver settings

@osem598

I think one doesn't exclude the other. Nvidia VSR will be first and we will probably see AMD's variant further down. I think there is generally more hype around Nvidia's feature right now and that may be why support for that has almost been finished already. Firefox will continue to be improved upon just like it's been so far, and we will just have to be patient. As an owner of an RTX card, I'm happy to see a video upscaling feature that I can utilize become a reality in Firefox this soon. And when AMD's variant will be supported some day in the future, even more people will be able to enjoy video upscaling. So, all in all I think it's good that we're seeing at least one such feature get support.

Like kkim said, VSR support seems to have been built by an external contributor, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the same happen with FidelityFX.

@osem598it currently won't be made for other OSes, Nvidia will first need to make VSR available to other OSes, and then Firefox can implement the support in other OSes for it

Honestly shocked that we still don't have this feature... I guess I'll keep watching my videos in lower-tier quality over Microsoft and/or Google's trackers being all up in my data.

Firefox 114 was released today. I see no switch for this feature. However in about config "gfx.webrender.super-resolution.nvidia" was added. Should this be considered as stable feature or just beta rolled out as hidden feature in stable version?

@piterk go to about:config and search "gfx.webrender.super-resolution.nvidia" toggle to true then restart

Can't really call it stable myself cause it does nothing when set to true, even after restarting of course

@3nderhow can I verify if this is working? Tried youtube on 720p and 1080p and I see 0 difference. No sharpening, no anything.

I have rtx sharpening enabled in nvidia control panel and set to max setting: 4/4.

I changed gfx.webrender.super-resolution.nvidia to true and restarted firefox twice.

Nothing has changed...

Nevermind, it looks like it will not work on full hd videos if you do not have 1440p display.

Q: Will RTX Video Super Resolution be enabled if video is displayed at native/lower resolution?  Does RTX Video Super Resolution enhance downscaling?
A: No, RTX Video Super Resolution will only be enabled if the video requires upscaling.

Q: Is RTX Video Super Resolution active if my video is minimized/hidden behind a window?
A: RTX Video Super Resolution will only become active if the video is displayed on the desktop.

@3nde Bugger I did that and now comparing yt vids on firefox and chrome, firefox doesn't seem to have the super resolution working, meanwhile chrome does have it

Was really looking forward to this! Maybe it's been pushed back to 115 because there were complications or what happened?

No idea, mine doesn't seem to be doing all that much either. Hope we get this soon

@cateis this working on all videos on chrome? because according to nvidia it should work only if video is at top quality already and it is still lower than display. For example 720p video on 1080p screen.

I tried 360p and 480p videos on firefox and see no improvement after enabling it. However I do not use chrome so I cannot compare.

@itskarencan you give us an update about current feature status? Preference was clearly added to stable build but it does not seem to do anything.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your patience. @piterk is right: the config "gfx.webrender.super-resolution.nvidia" was rolled out as a hidden feature. I want to shed some light on this part of the product process: we'd need to work with NVIDIA and AMD directly as partners so that they (and we) can provide official support for similar technologies to you, ideally across multiple operating systems. The official support is something we are considering in our current planning phase, but our outreach can only go so far.

If there are any partnership-related developments regarding this post that come along, I'll share them. For any issues with the current config, please consult the Bugzilla ticket for troubleshooting.

Thank you!
