Vertical tabs | Auto hide/show for one/multiple tabs

I frequently use a new window with only one tab for various reasons. When I do that, the vertical tabs sidebar is wasted. Because of that, I checked "Hide tabs and sidebar". When I start using multiple tabs, I need to manually show the vertical tabs sidebar. I'd love an option where the sidebar hides when the window has exactly one tab, and shows when a window has multiple tabs. I think the best way to surface this option in the UI would be radio buttons under "Hide tabs and sidebar":

☐ Hide tabs and sidebar
   ◯ Always
   ◉ For single tab

But I would be happy if this were an un-surfaced option.
