Is it possible to add the ability to unload/hibernate all tabs from a certain group at once? For example, by adding this item to the context menu when I right-click on a group
I like the new feature with tab groups, I moved all my work tabs to a group. Let's say the work day ends and I want to do my own thing. But the tabs from the work group continue to work in the background and consume RAM, right? Now they all need to be unloaded one by one or selected via ctrl, but I would really like to just turn off the entire group at once with one click.
It would be great to unload all tabs in a group by right clicking the group tab
The unload tab option is quite useful in conserving system resources. There are two features which would take it to the next level. One is to allow the user to unload all tabs which have been grouped by adding an option in the "Manage Tab Group" menu to unload all tabs in the group. This would make the unload tab feature easier to manage for large numbers of tabs. A second feature would be to allow the unloaded status to persist after restarting the browser as all tabs (unloaded and loaded) are reloaded on restarting the browser. This would be especially useful due to Microsoft's frequently mandated reboots due to new security patches. You guys are doing a great job - keep Mozilla moving forward!
Right now, we provide the capability to unload all tabs in a group by selecting all tabs, right-clicking, and choosing Unload X tabs option in the tab context menu (rather than tab group context menu).
We're not yet considering expanding the options in the tab groups context menu, but we'll pass the idea of preserving the option to keep the tab unloaded on restart to the team that worked on tab unloading.
We've also made a quick exploration around adding Unload tabs to the tab group context menu when the Unload tabs capability became available, and have seen some confusion from folks seeing options to ungroup tabs and unload tabs close to each other 😞
This would be invaluable to me. My primary use case for tab groups is when I go on an adhd fueled tangent of opening huge amounts of tabs in the middle of my primary browsing window. In such a situation, I add those tabs to a tab group in order to restore locational context to the tabs surrounding the group, add context to the news tabs via naming the tab group, and compress those tabs into an easy to manipulate package that I can then drag somewhere else (e.g. a different window) if needed.
Since this use case is pretty much defined by opening a large number (frequently upwards of 100) of tabs in one go that I then stow away for later, it's almost always paired with unloading those tabs to save RAM (the unload tabs option as a whole has been a godsend for me).
However, given the large number of tabs, it's always a real pain to scroll through the entire list so I can shift+click select the whole batch to unload them (especially as my computer's performance starts to degrade).
It's especially frustrating because I have to select all those tabs in order to add them them to a group in the first place, only for them to be deselected once the group is created, which means I have to select them all again in order to unload them.
Adding the ability to simply unload all the tabs in a group at once, without having to go in and select all those tabs, would be very helpful.
Failing that, then adding an option in the tab group context menu to select all tabs within a group would be a decent alternative. Beyond that, having the tabs (all of them, not just the one the user is currently viewing) stay selected after the group is created would, at the very least, solve my specific use case.
