It’s kind of weird that such a great e-mail client doesn’t have an option to hide folders. That setting would be useful e.g. when I have an account administrated by a company, and I am unable to delete an unused/unnecessary folder, then Thunderbird would allow me to hide it. The only already existing option similar to that is the option to “Hide Local Folders” but it hides all and as expected only local folders.

For IMAP accounts you can unsubscribe from folders which effectively hides them and their content.

@ MattAuSupport

There is no "unsubscribe" option in Thunderbird client v115.5.0.

I also would like to hide default folders--Spam and All Mail in particular--from appearing in my Thunderbird client folders list.

I right-click All Mail, select Synchronization tab then uncheck 'Select this folder for offline use', the folder still appears in the Thunderbird client. Same with Spam folder.

What other setting(s) "effectively hide" these folders and their content from my aching eyeballs?

I would like to see this feature implemented too.

I save emails in folders and by year. I don't always need them, but do go back and refer time and again. When not needed, I would like some way of hiding these `Local Folders', at least not getting them listed on the left panel.

I would also like to see this feature. In particular Gmail has the "All Mail" folder which is just a rehash of everything I've already seen. It's annoying. Especially since it claims I've got unread emails that were already dealt with in my Inbox.

It would really be nice to be able to hide or unhide folders as necessary

There is a way to hide email folders! At least for IMAP accounts.

Right click on a root email account name in the email accounts list on the left side. Select "Subscribe" from the context list. Uncheck the folders you don't want to see. Select OK.

Reverse the process to get them back.

I have Tbird 147.0.2, latest version, on IMAP, with only 1 account Home.  Right-click does nothing. So I cannot Subscribe or Unsubscribe for automatic accounts like INBOX.Trash and similar.  I already have those accounts (Trash and similar).

What am I missing?

@Westlake84 I'm using esr, so I'm still at 140.9.0esr, I assume you're on monthly releases since you said 147.0.2, but that shouldn't matter.

"Right-click does nothing".  Every single folder, including the "top folder" (i.e. the account name) should have a right-click menu.  To be clear, are you doing right-click on the line just above "Inbox"?

Assuming you do get a menu when you right-click on the account, you should see "Subscribe..." as the 5th choice in the menu.  Click that, and in the dialog click Refresh to make sure you have everything.  It is here that you can de-select desired folders to hide them.

To be clear - I did this just now myself and successfully hid Drafts, Sent, and Trash that I don't use (this is an archive location, not used to send/receive email).

@lothian - Yes there is subscribe, but it's not on the right-click for each folder, it's under the right-click directly on the account name, and you do subscribe/unsub individually, but viewing a tree of all folders in one dialog.

Making moves

Unchecking the 'Subscribe' box(s) hides the folder(s) but it may take a few minutes for the folders to disappear.. If there are sub-folders, they should be unchecked as well. This works on my PC w/ T-Bird 140.8.0esr.
Right-click the email account header and choose 'Subscribe' to bring up the checkbox menu.

sorry I cannot figure out how to add an image to this message..
