Tl;dr: I would love to see Thunderbird (Currently known as K-9 Mail) also being brought to Apple devices.

The term privacy and open source have become well used and something of a reason for many to switch apps/services and even operating systems and devices. But in this day and age on Apple those options are lacking since many are stuck with Apple and having access to a well functioning and well designed e-mail app, with transparent/limited/no data collection from a trusted source is severely lacking since as a user you are basically stuck with the default Mail app, or Canary which seems to be what many recommends (i think because there simply is no better options currently) but in having used K-9 for several years on Android and now that i am currently on Apple i find myself lacking options.

But also with Canary moving to offering a more algorithmic and automated approach (it´s called Copilot and is pro/paid option) in handling of e-mail i think this will create a need for options. Personally even the look of the bottom toolbar is a annoyance since 1 icon is dedicated to the Copilot and no option to remove it. At least i cant find one.

So i hope this idea generates some discussion and for others to chime in on this.

If this suggestion is already somewhere else, or if this should be posted elsewhere then please point me to that place so i can add my vote.

Thunderbird for ios is especially needed now since Apple is now clearly snooping through the email contents to categorize them - a most unwanted and unwelcome development. If Apple had been doing this all along, it became obvious with one of their recent updates.

Desperate for an update. Anything? Would really be grateful for the addition of TB to iOS.

Any update on TB for iOS?

Would love to use it in combination with Delta Chat on my phone!

What ever came of the iOS version of Thunderbird?  iOS really needs something better than Apple mail.

Thunderbird for iPadOS & iOS

There’s an idea from 2022 where a user is requesting Thunderbird for Apple mobile/tablet users and a Mozilla rep replies that it’s in the works. That was 3 years ago and I was just hoping for an update. Is this still coming or has it been aborted?

@DrewMars (and others following along) - let me touch base with the team to see if there are any updates

Update - hiring developers is now in early stages.  The plan is to have a test application available before end of year.

This idea in connect is currently set to "In Development", but a more accurate status is "Planned". Unfortunately connect does not have a status for planned.

I use the Thunderbird on my Windows desktop for many years. I also use K9 on Android phone.

I'm now using iPhone, I want to use Thunderbird on iPhone.

I wish Thunderbird for iPhone/iPad to support OpenPGP. It's even better if it also support S/MIME.

I would like to know why the Thunderbird main page has the Apple logo next to the others above the "Download and languages options" when there ISN'T a Thunderbird app available for Apple products at this time!!  😡

When I was first looking at Thunderbird as an option some time ago I saw that logo and thought, "oh good!  I can use it on my laptop and my phone!" (Since I have an iPhone)  Now that I'm actually ready to install TB, I find this is not the case at all and I'm pretty ticked off at the false advertising.  😠

Hi there. iPhone user here. I noticed the announcement for Thunderbird Pro and I signed up not realizing the Thunderbird app did not exist yet on my platform. I really hope a future app with all the richness of the android app is in the works.
