Description:
I frequently use message labeling with tags in Thunderbird. Currently, when I apply a tag to a message, the tag selection window closes immediately. This makes workflows with multiple tag changes less efficient.

Use case:
Suppose I have a message tagged as “To Do”. When the task is completed, I want to:

  1. Add the tag “Done”

  2. Remove the tag “To Do”

At present, this requires opening the tag selection window twice – once to add “Done” and once again to remove “To Do”.

Suggestion:
Please consider adding an option that allows the tag selection window to remain open after selecting a tag, so multiple tag changes can be made in one step.

Thank you.

Even more useful for other tags that don't have shortcuts.

Well, I have the same problem. However, I bypass it by using the number shortcut of each tag. Which brings me to the real problem from my point of view. Numbering tags ends at #9. So, an obvious solution would be to add a shortcut function that would enable us to signify we are about to enter a double digit tag shortcut, e.g. prefixing it with a "#".

This way we would be able to add as many tags we want without having to deal with an additional user interface element. I believe this optimizes user experience.
