Tablet & Mobile UI - tab bar for Android

Firefox Fennec had a great tabbed interface on tablets. When Fenix came, we regressed to a stretched out phone UI. After years of stagnation, Android tablets are rising again, thanks to foldables and new initiatives from Google. Firefox is missing out by not including a tabbed interface for Android tablet users, particularly because FF has best in class syncing abilities. Android power users are enthusiastic recommenders of their favorite browsers, so it would be huge advantage over Chromium based competitors!

Absolutely love and agree with the idea. I have been using Dex a lot more than my Windows machine, if that can be believed, and a close to desktop experience would be desired. And, yes, I refuse to use chromium and Samsung Internet, even though they have the tab bar interface.

There was a comment earlier that it would come in build 132, but it looks as though that the enhancement did make it. Does anyone know the next target release for this?

If it does require 2 different apps to distinguish between Phone and Tablet, then so be it. Though I'd prefer that not be the case.

• Desktop mode browsing is now enabled by default for large devices. This can be controlled via a preference under Settings in "Site settings" previously named "Site permissions".

Why is now (Firefox 133) the desktop mode now ON by default?

It makes no sense on tablets without mouse and a keyboard. Websites will serve less ads, bigger elements for touch, and usually much better layout - even for tablets (which are not always in landscape mode).

And it's super confusing, because normal users have no idea why the pages looks weird now.
PLUS as bonus, the button to disable desktop mode is always OFF when this global switch is enabled:

How did this got through the beta without anyone complaining???
