Firefox Fennec had a great tabbed interface on tablets. When Fenix came, we regressed to a stretched out phone UI. After years of stagnation, Android tablets are rising again, thanks to foldables and new initiatives from Google. Firefox is missing out by not including a tabbed interface for Android tablet users, particularly because FF has best in class syncing abilities. Android power users are enthusiastic recommenders of their favorite browsers, so it would be huge advantage over Chromium based competitors!

Delighted to see this being worked on. I tested the nightly version on my Galaxy Tab S7 and it's very promising. This does reveal another omission, though - support for keyboard shortcuts such as Ctrl+T, Ctrl+W, Ctrl+L/Alt+D, Ctrl+F, etc. in the Firefox Android. This is a huge QoL consideration when using tablets with physical keyboard attachments.

I found these ideas related to this:

Could we maybe get these merged for better visibility?

I wish the whole home / tab part would be cleaned up. It makes no sense why when you hit Home button or New Tab, they have the same function. When you click New Tab button, a New Tab should be added immediately, not having to select a site first.

@JonI had the tab strip available in Nightly secret settings up until the last few days of v127. The past 2 weeks, the option is now no longer there.

My device is a Galaxy Fold 5. This option be enabled for foldables again, not just tablets. Should use device screen width to know whether to show the tabs strip or not.

@jxduranIt's enabled by default on Nightly now for Android tablets. I believe they discussed it won't be coming to foldables in the bug tracking discussions.

Hello, it seens it doesn't work on Huawei Matepad 11.5. I could not find it in normal nightly settings and when I enabled secret settings, the option to change was not there.

Tried it (127) on GrapheneOS on a Pixel Tablet. It works great. A very welcome QoL-improvment.
