This is a feature request regarding the “troubleshootability” of sync problems in Firefox. The scenario described below (surely a bug, but I’m not sure) is anecdotal.

Example Problem/Scenario/Use case

I’m trying to troubleshoot a tab synchronization problem from iPhone to desktop. Specifically, the list of tabs shown from the iPhone is out of date (i.e., it does not include tabs I just opened). The last error log in about:sync-log on desktop is from two days ago. (On the phone, none of the about: pages work, so I can’t troubleshoot there.)

I am left wondering if the desktop has fetched from the server (I know desktop has pushed, I can see desktop tabs on the phone) or if the phone is even pushing.

Proposed solution

In about:firefoxview#syncedtabs, i.e., from Firefox View > Tabs from other devices, when viewed from Device A, next to Firefox on Device B there should be and indication of

  • the last time Device A pulled Device B’s tab list,
  • the last time known to Device A that Device B pushed its tabs.

This would provide a nice sanity check and help pinpoint exactly where the problem is.
