Swipe between open tabs on iOS

Swiping between open tabs would be wonderful. Implementation could be exactly how it's done in Safari.

If you're in private mode then swiping would only be between private tabs. Swiping normal tabs would only navigate between normal tabs.

This is not the same as https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/swipe-between-tabs-private-tabs-and-synced-tabs/idc-p/473#M245, which asks for swiping between all open and all private tabs.

Bump. The only thing that’s holding me back from switching from Safari is the lack of tab swipe gestures

Okay, Firefox iOS 143.2 update now says:

“Thanks for choosing Firefox! Here's what's new:

• Swipe Tabs Gesture: Swipe tabs directly from the toolbar for faster tab management.
• New Appearance Settings: Customize the toolbar by choosing New Tab button or Home button (progressive rollout)”

This does not appear to be working, even on the latest iOS 26.0.1 and with the address bar on the top or bottom of the screen.

@trey_a_12, I’ve experienced the same, but it now seems to be working 😃

It’s a very welcome upgrade!

Although, I would now already request that a swipe up would display all the tabs, just like Safari 🙂

Hi! We’ve just rolled out swipe tabs to everyone in the latest App Store version of Firefox for iOS! We’ve been testing it in different regions, but it’s now available worldwide once you update to the latest version. Give it a try and let us know what you think!

Well, ladies and gentlemen, as of today (October 9th, 2025) on iOS 26.0.1 with Firefox version 143.2, after a phone restart and a few seconds of uncertainty… I can confirm that tab swiping is now functional on the US App Store release of Firefox! Thank you Mozilla, @andyf, and everyone else involved!

At this point it’s purely wishful thinking in a potential extra improvement over Chrome and Edge, but if there was ever a swipe up to access all tabs gesture, that’d be awesome as well. That said, I believe this request has officially been met!

Good news...

This feature is now delivered in the latest release for Firefox for iOS - check out @andyf's latest comment for more details. Thanks again for your help making this happen.

It must still be rolling out as I checked updates in the iOS app store, and none were available. My Firefox for iOS version is 143.1.1 and I'm in the Western US.  

I mention my location since application rollouts can be done using different criteria.
