Making moves
Status: New idea

Dear Firefox/Mozilla Team,

I hope this message finds you well. I’ve been a long-time user and advocate for Firefox, and I wanted to suggest an idea that could potentially benefit both the Firefox community and the Mozilla organization.

Have you ever considered the possibility of introducing a subscription model or a Patreon/Kickstarter campaign to support the development of Firefox?

Here’s how it could work:

1. Subscription Tiers: Introduce subscription tiers within the Firefox app. These tiers could offer non-essential features such as custom stickers, themes, or other bonuses that enhance the user experience but are not crucial for basic functionality.

2. Opt-In Model: Make these subscription tiers entirely optional. Users who value these extra features and are interested in supporting Firefox’s development can choose to subscribe, while those who prefer the free experience can continue using the app as usual.

3. Diversify Revenue: This approach would diversify Firefox’s revenue sources beyond advertising. It could provide a more stable income stream, reducing the reliance on ad revenue and the need for potentially invasive advertising practices.

4. Crowdfunding: Alternatively, consider setting up a crowdfunding campaign on platforms like Kickstarter or Patreon. This would allow passionate users to contribute directly to the project’s development and receive exclusive perks in return.

5. Transparency: Ensure transparency regarding how the subscription funds are used, emphasizing their contribution to improving Firefox and supporting Mozilla’s mission.

By implementing such a system, you can maintain Firefox’s commitment to user privacy while also giving users a more active role in funding its development. It’s a win-win situation that aligns with Firefox’s principles and could potentially lead to more sustainable growth.

I understand that any significant changes to the Firefox business model would require careful consideration and testing, but I believe that exploring these options could be a positive step forward for the Firefox community and its continued success.

I just made an account to suggest the same thing. I would add that it's best if this remains optional. I would happily spend 1 to 5 euro a month to support Firefox, especially against the dominance of browsers like Chrome/Edge and ensure a true W3C compliant browser.

Now I have to work through the payment process every time I get an email asking me to financially support FF. Add a link somewhere for a subscription model that is linked to ones Mozilla account and instead of an email asking me for money I'd be happy to receive one once a month telling me that I'm a supporter of Firefox =).
