Stateful sidebar windows that persists after closing the sidebar

This is a generalization of

Because of the limitation that only one sidebar can be active, it is sometimes needed to switch between different sidebars. And as more extensions support using them on the sidebar I am increasingly frustrated that closing/switching the active sidebar item immediately kills the previous sidebar's state. For my workflow this means im effectively stuck to using ~1-2 extensions on the sidebar at most.
