Status: New idea

The recent list on most recently copied to or moved folder list is now sorted by most recent destination folder. That makes anything but the most recent couple of destination folders very difficult to find, and thus defeats the purpose of having a Recent option for moving or copying. Who can remember what the 7th last destination you had or the 11th last destination, etc. The most recent sorted order forces you to read the whole list every time. Please provide a configuration option to sort the list alphabetically.

I agree with what you described, locating a recent folder in alphabetical order was much easier and faster!!

This change to recent usage is useless.  Email comes in randomly.   So the folder one would move it to is also random.  Now one has to hunt for the folder (and it might not be there).  Please give us back alphabetical.

Thanks for posting this idea — I strongly agree that the “Most Recent Folders” list should be sorted alphabetically.

In my daily workflow I triage the Inbox quickly (message → Move/Copy → pick folder → next). With a long list, a “recent-first” order becomes unpredictable: the target folder’s position constantly changes, so I have to scan the whole list to find it. That’s slower than alphabetical and defeats the purpose of having a quick list at all.

With a short list, “recent-first” doesn’t add value either, because you can read the entire list instantly — alphabetical is still fast and remains consistent.

So across both short and long lists, alphabetical is the only option that stays efficient and predictable. Please restore alphabetical sorting (preferably as the default, or at least as a user-configurable option).

I can only agree with previous correspondents.  The new sort oder is really unhelpful.  Please allow alphabetical sort again.

Fully agree - most recent sort does nothing but slow down filing e-mails to folders.

Fully, emphatically concur!  I can scan alphabetical ordering very rapidly simply by knowing that the move I want to make is near the top, middle, or bottom of the "recents".  I can't do that with "most recently used".

I would like to know when the original sort order in "Move to: Recent" is restored or at least an option is added to sort alphabetically. The current sort order is practically useless, finding a folder is a nuisance. It annoys me every day.

I've literally only just upgraded Thunderbird on a new Apple laptop this eveing and it's already driving me nuts!

It's been over 2 months since this "new idea" was proposed.  It's a simple return to the far more efficient and user-friendly old way.  Why is this so hard for Mozilla to fix (or unfix the thing that wasn't broken, as it were)?

Instead of arguing about Recent Destinations default sort order, I propose adding a menu function in the Recent Destinations to allow the user to manage the order by sorting A-Z or Z-A, deleting individual destinations, or clearing the entire list.

If not built into Thunderbird, perhaps this could be handled with an extension.  I searched for such an extension, but as of this posting couldn't find one.  Anyone?

That would be a good solution. Op to now, all they have done is to make Recent Destinations practically useless by cutting the list down to 10 items.
