How It Works

  1. Local Context Building:

    • The browser collects search data, browsing behavior, and user preferences locally (not sent to Mozilla or any third party).
    • Alternatively, users can manually input their preferences through a setup wizard.
  2. User-Controlled Context Sharing:

    • Websites can request access to personalization data.
    • The browser notifies users, who can choose what data to share (e.g., topics of interest, preferred UI themes, language).
  3. Enhanced Ad and Content Personalization (Without Third-Party Tracking):

    • Instead of relying on Google or Facebook tracking, ads & recommendations can use local preferences stored in the browser.
    • User controls what ads they want to see (e.g., interested in gaming gear but not luxury watches).
  4. Privacy & Transparency:

    • All data is stored locally, and no third-party tracking cookies are needed.
    • Users can reset, edit, or delete their profile anytime.

Benefits

Personalized Experience Without Tracking – Websites adapt to users' needs even on first visits.
User-Owned Data – Unlike Google’s FLoC, no centralized profiling happens.
Better Ad Targeting (Without Intrusiveness) – Users choose what ads they see instead of random tracking-based ads.
Improves Accessibility – Websites can auto-adjust themes, font sizes, and layouts based on user needs.
