Send 'close tab' request to other device via sync / remotely close tabs

Story 1: I am one of the legion of people with dozens of tabs open on device A that I would love to read or otherwise process (read it, fill in the form, finally buy the shirt ...). They aren't worth bookmarking but I have to get to them someday. Later, while device B is in front of me, I have some time to process tabs. Using Firefox sync, I open a few of the tabs on A and do what I need to do. I am now done with these tabs, they no longer spark joy, and I can finally remove some clutter in the list of synced tabs and on device A.

Story 2: Device A is a work computer where some tabs are useful only at work, but a dozen of them are shopping tabs I was browsing while on company time. I have time to finally pick a shirt and buy it at home, but the clutter of work-related tabs makes it hard to find the shopping tabs. I never want to see the work tabs on the computer at home--they're more clutter and some I can't even access outside of the work network--but I don't want to turn off sync entirely.

Solution: First, allow me to remove items from the list of tabs hosted on device A displayed in the list of tabs on device B. For example, right-click on the tab in the list of synced tabs and select 'hide tab on this device'.

Second, just as we can push an "open tab" request from one device to another, use the proposed right-click menu to push a "close tab" request. When I get back to device A at work tomorrow, I can accept the close tab requests, one at a time or all at once.

Alternatively, I have an "open tab" option, but also a "steal tab" option. The steal (or transfer) option simultaneously opens that tab on device B and closes it on device A (or if that is technically not possible, sends a close tab request).

I would love to see this. I always forget what tabs I already closed on other devices. It would spare me much time to go through read tabs.

+1 for this. Managing my tabs on my phone is a huge pain, compared to on desktop. It would be alot easier to close tabs from Sync.

I install Firefox on my mobile device. I can open tabs from my PC, but when I close it, it does not close on my PC. That does not making sense to forcing users to remember, which site he/she read.

Solution? Allow to mark tab as to close. When Firefox launch, it check if there some tabs market as read/to close on other devices and show list with it, allowing to check/uncheck tabs to close.

Also, on my mobile (or other device), I can mark tab as read to allow this functionality to work.

Also, I can mark tab to read/to close even without two devices. In this cases, Firefox do not load page market as to close, when launching (it will has lower priority) and show this list too, so I can close it.

This is the first time Im seeing this post, but I did propose a similar idea of having synced groups (or workspaces) instead of individual tabs. Currently I probably have over 150 tabs open in multiple groups. Would be tough to have all in one window.

*Lol. You can switch between your shopping group and work group while at work and not have all showing on the same screen.

This seems like a no-brainer idea to implement, I find myself constantly having to sit down, process open tabs from my phone onto my laptop, batch process them, then manually remove them from my phone . Syncing open tabs would be ideal to save the dual work that happens otherwise

I'd like to offer my support for the development of this idea. It's something I've been missing since the inception of the Firefox tabs sync feature, as many people visit this thread while searching for how to close synced tabs in Google.

I hope to one day see this implemented; it's my top priority idea for Firefox on desktop.

Closing synchronized tabs on other devices

I would like to be able to manage synchronized tabs with Firefox faster and in less time. I would like to be able to close the tabs on device A (PC) that are open on device B (smartphone, laptop, ...). The tabs are displayed in Firefox in the sidebar "synchronized tabs". The tabs are displayed in a list sorted by device.

Current steps (Firefox Desktop 121):
1) I open Firefox on the PC (device A) and display the 30 synchronized tabs in Firefox from my smartphone (device B).
2) I open the relevant 15 tabs on the PC and continue using them later.
3) I no longer need the 30 tabs on my smartphone and want to close them.
4) Now I have to take my smartphone and open Firefox (for Android).
5) I have to compare every single tab in Firefox on my smartphone and then close it. This is time-consuming.

Desired steps:
1) as above
2) as above
3) On the PC (device A), I close the 30 synchronized tabs that are open on the other device (B).
Result: The 30 tabs are no longer open on the other device B.

Even if I use the Firefox View function, I still have the same problem. It would be desirable to be able to close the synchronized tabs of another device with Firefox View as well.

I have had the text translated from German into English using DeepL. It is therefore possible that the terms used differ from the English user interface of Firefox.
