Search result links should open in new tab like it is there in Microsoft edge and other browsers.

This can help while opening multiple websites for research purposes.

Generally the website controls where links are opened by default. It may be that the search engine is choosing different options in different browsers.

If a website isn't opening links in a new tab by default, then you can press cmd (on Mac) or ctrl (on Windows/Linux) whilst clicking the link to have it open in a new tab.

These are subject to change, but search sites often have an option to target results links to a new tab instead of the same tab. For example:

• Google: https://www.google.com/preferences#tabVal=1 - it mentions opening in a new window, but Firefox will divert that to a new tab as usual
• Bing: https://www.bing.com/account/general 
• DuckDuckGo: https://duckduckgo.com/settings 

Your preference typically is saved in a cookie, so if you set Firefox to clear cookies when it closes, you'll need to return to those pages each session. Otherwise, your setting should persist.
