Thunderbird is a unique e-mail program due to the large number of useful functions, many necessary settings and facilities already at the level of the basic version (without add-ons), which makes it unrivaled, and the add-ons make it even more unique. However, there is one big drawback, namely the lack of text searching in text attachments such as PDF, XML, XLS, DOC, ODT, CSV, TXT, etc., along with searching in the message content. Various programs perfectly support searching in attachments, such as eM Client, but it has very few configurations, so it is weak for demanding users (like me).

To look for something in attachments, I have to log in to Gmail via a browser, and that's not the point of using an email client like the great Thunderbird.

Would you like to introduce a facility such as simultaneous searching also in attachments?

Have a good day 🙂

This functionality is all I want for Christmas! (A little early I know, but maybe it could be done by Christmas? 😉)

Please make this reality!

How many votes do we need to get the developers interest?

Also how much work could this be? I'm thinking that we could just index the file as a whole and return matches on any files that return a match? Or do we need to extract the text from the file first? And if so, Thunderbird already have support for displaying and manually searching inside PDF files with the CTRL-F keyboard shortcut. So it can't in either way be that much work to get this done right? It just needs to be somewhat performant on a few thousand files! 😉

Oh yes please.

I often need it to find old receipts for stuff I have bought on a webshop, but don't remember when and which webshop I bought it at. And not all webshops these days names the things you buy directly in the mails they send. Sometimes they only write it in the receipt added as a pdf-attachment. For me this is becoming a pretty frequent situation.
