Safeguard against browser + addon configs changing during sync

Hi please could we get some sort of lock / protections for a main FireFox install / computer config + addons so that when setting up a new computer / FF install, the new install does not overwrite the old / main FF profile as soon as it syncs?

I have my main pc with years of configs and built up addon settings on it and was setting up a new pc + installing programs and when i installed FF on it and sync'd to get my bookmarks and addons on it, the main FF on my old computer sync'd with the new one and i lost all my configs and settings.
