I am using Thunderbird 140.6.0esr (portable), and I have found that keeping subfolders compact is essential for stability when moving the files between computers.  At one time, there was a menu item for "Compact Folders" which would compact all subfolders in a subfolder, but that went away a while ago.  What I have to do now is right click on every subfolder and click on "Compact".  What I would like is a keyboard shortcut, and this exists for folders, but subfolders have two menu items that use "C":  "Copy to" and "Compact".  So I have to right-click, hit "C" twice, then enter.  This gets very tedious when I have dozens of subfolders to compact.

Please change the subfolder right click menu to be consistent with the folder right click menu so that "C" performs Compact Folder in both.

There is still a Menu bar option for Compact Folders, which compacts all subfolders:

TB Menu Bar > File > Compact Folders

(Most don't see the top [menu bar](https://i.imgur.com/OTvCzJ6.png), as it's hidden by default. If you don't see it, press the ALT key. To make the menu bar always visible, press ALT + V, then T, then M.)

I thought this used to work, but had stopped working,  There is a trick to this which I discovered today:

The file, "Local Folders", must be selected first.  After that, selecting, "Compact Folders" will compact all subfolders under it.  Selecting a subfolder with subfolders under it and then selecting "Compact Folders" will not compact the subfolders under it.

Thank you for pointing this out, this is a big help.

This still does not fix the logical inconsistency of the right-click menus, but this should make it easier to live with it.

Thank you for this good advice.

A recent update had hidden the top menu bar and I did not know how to get it back until now.

I had seen the menu option for Compact Folders, but it did not seem to work for me.  I tried it again today and discovered there is a trick to it:  it only works when the top level folder is selected.  I was selecting a subfolder under "Local Folders", and "Compact Folders" was not compacting the subfolders under the subfolder.  When I select "Local Folders" first, then "Compact Folders" compacts all subfolders and all subfolders under subfolders.

So, thanks again for great advice that will be a big help.

This still does not fix the logical inconsistency of the right-click subfolder menus, but I guess I can live with it now.

This is the second time I have made this comment, but I couldn't see that it was posted, so I apologize for any redundancy.
