In Chrome I have all sites muted by default, because I "blocked" the permission for all sites. I only allow sound on sites that I want, like Youtube and such. I tried extensions in Firefox that block sound on all tabs. But somehow they are unreliable.

Hello

Firefox Page Info window
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-page-info-window

Allow or block media autoplay in Firefox
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/block-autoplay

1 - Go to configuration editor for Firefox https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox
2 - Enter a search term autoplay

media.autoplay.default 1 this correspond to the situation Block Audio.
media.autoplay.default 0 this correspond to the situation Allow Audio and Video.
media.autoplay.default 5 this correspond to the situation Block Audio and Video.

About, media.autoplay.blocking-policy, maybe you can test 2

Agentvirtuel , that does not block audio in videos. In Chrome, no sound is audible until you allow it.

Hello

A working environment (user) in a given situation does not correspond to a working environment (other user) in a given situation, please understand that it is difficult to give an opinion.

Without an example, is difficult to give an opinion.

Another example https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1517807 media.autoplay.blocking_policy, it works.

Same here. I came across this request after reading an article about websites abusing audio playback to fingerprint devices. Firefox was reportedly not affected, but it still made me wonder why permissions cannot be configured more consistently.

Under "Permissions and Data" almost every permission has its own settings dialog, a list of website exceptions, and an option to block new requests by default. Why can I configure microphone access this way, but not speaker access?

Even if this is mainly about convenience, I think audio output should offer the same controls: a configurable default, the option to block new requests, and explicit exceptions for individual websites. The default could remain permissive.
