Prevent offline files from showing in search history

Offline PDF and html files keep contaminating my search history and making it harder to use. It would be nice to have an option to prevent local files from being recorded in the search history.

Even if you have a private browser tab open, attempting to open a local file will cause firefox to open a brand new non-private window. It is very annoying, and feels like a bug.

Would very much appreciate this, even as an about:config toggle. I use firefox to view a lot of text and image files, often ones that are tmp or going to be moved/deleted.
