Status: New idea

Unlike most other permissions (Webcam access, Audio/Video autoplay, Location, etc…), the ability to play "protected content" is toggled with a global option in about:preferences, and can't be changed per-site.

It'd be nice to have more granular control, so DRM can be enabled only on sites which actually need it, and not on any random site with an Ad which tries to play Widevine content. Equally, there are some sites with non-DRM fallbacks which may be preferable, and having to disable/enabled DRM globally is unpleasant.

I wish I could give more than one kudo for this

I wish I could too, because I would give thousands.

I don't ever want to play DRM encumbered content, and so whoul like my choice not to enable DRM remembered, instead of having to constantly dismiss the "Enable DRM' notice every time the page is reloaded.

The need to dismiss the 'Enable DRM' button is really, really annoying. This should be remembered by Firefox, that when a user doesn't want to ever deal with DRM content, they should not have to continually say No.
