Open link in same tab

i would really like Firefox would add a feature that when you open a link it does in the same tab. I use the new tab override to do that, all other browsers have that feature. And please add this feature. Because I do not want to have many extension to Firefox. when it should be a standard feature. So i really hope that would come soon.

It would be nice to have a shortcut like there is for forcing links to open in new tabs in the background (on mac: command + t) to open external links in the same tab.
