I'm personally a heavy tab user but have always wondered why there is almost no support for tab grouping or customization in the native tab bar in Firefox.

I think making it able to group like Google Chrome does for example or at least giving more access for extensions and add-ons would significantly improve the UI in that regard.

This thread is now gigantic, but here's to adding my redundant two cents:

  • It would be great if groups could be move; would be much easier than having to move many individual tabs around a group;
  • It would be great to have an option to bookmarks all tabs of a given group (for now you can bookmarks *all* tabs, you can "save and close" a group, but you can't simply bookmark the tabs of a group)

PS: just so that I am not only complaining: I really having groups, displaying them vertically, and being able to resize my tabs bar. Moving groups around would be good, but it's just a small improvement. Having the vertical tabs/groups work had been a dream for years and I am *so* happy that it finally works, I am really loving it!

I like how Chrome also lets you make the group colors different to solidify the differences. Probably my favorite overall tab feature.

Firefox team, you did a great job with the Vertical Tab feature in the latest release, please consider adding the tab grouping/tab folder feature as this is something a lot of people would be very grateful for!

I'm running out of colors.

This is quite literally the only feature preventing me from using Firefox at work. I have so many "background tabs" that I both need quick access to all the time but don't want getting in the way of my immediate work. Being able to group, color-code, rearrange en masse, and show or hide with a single click is a workflow I just cannot really live without. I used to think uBlock Origin was the one thing I couldn't live without, and that's true on my personal devices, but at work, my #1 need turns out to be tab organization!

Chrome just keeps getting worse, I would love to stop using it.

@juliehill great news: we're actively working on this feature and getting ready to ship it soon! You can actually try it out now and share feedback, if interested. Check out this discussion thread with our Product team to learn more: Help shape the future of Tab Groups in Firefox!

Hello, Firefox friends! Tab Groups—a new way to organize and take control of your tabs—is now available to almost all users worldwide. Create a group by dragging one tab onto another, pausing briefly, then dropping it. Starting today with the release of Firefox 138, you can also reposition tab groups on the tab bar by dragging them.

It feels good to announce the wider release of Tab Groups here on Mozilla Connect, where Tab Groups began. At our kickoff meeting, @Jon shared a presentation that clearly reflected your goals, needs, and ideas. Throughout the design and development process, your feedback on early versions in Firefox Nightly, our leading edge browser for testing and development, helped guide our design and implementation.

To learn more about how the Firefox Community shaped Tab Groups, please see  "You asked, we built it: Firefox tab groups are here " a blog post about Mozilla Connect's role in Tab Groups.

Tab Groups are just the first step in what we hope are several that will put Firefox users in control of organizing tabs and other information in the browser. We're already hard at work prototyping and testing a new kind of tool that aims to make organizing tabs less tedious and more joyful. Stay tuned for more information soon.

Dear Firefox IT Team,

Thank you for your hard work and release of Tab Grouping functionality - it is just great!

I would like to propose to add also keyboard shortcuts, to be able to create a group without having to drag-drop tabs or without right-clicks on the tabs.

Another idea I have, is to have a possibility to change order of groups. For now – if I am not mistaken – the only way to change the groups order is to close the group and create it once again. Would it be possible to add this feature (like it is already available in Google Chrome where I first have seen this functionality)? It would be great as it helps to organize tabs and have a better understanding what is more-less important (I look at order of tab groups and I tend to work with tabs in a group that is located on the right side).

Thank you once again for your support!

Best regards,
Pablo1111211

This is looking great, together with vertical tabs and how you used the existing tab search arrow to store the tab groups. Perfect! Now, I just need tab group sync that works with iOS, and I'll be able to switch back to Firefox as my main browser again!

How do tab groups interact with containers?

For example, I have a container setup for YouTube, but would also love to have a YouTube tabgroup, where new YouTube pages open by default (is opening in a special tabgroup by default based on domain even possible?) But I would then also like to have links to YouTube from one specific hobby tabgroup to open in that hobby tabgroup (but still in the YouTube container).

This is great, of course. However, the groups are still present across Simple Tab Groups workspaces. Is this something STG can fix? I'm assuming they'd have to hide groups similar to how they hide tabs.

@ssmagulaTHANK YOU!!! Having posted about this ages ago, constantly getting email updates of so many others agreeing and wanting this in this thread, its so so nice this happened. I appreciate so much the hard work of you and the rest of the team. My chaos of open tabs is much more organized now.

Thank you again!
