I'm personally a heavy tab user but have always wondered why there is almost no support for tab grouping or customization in the native tab bar in Firefox.

I think making it able to group like Google Chrome does for example or at least giving more access for extensions and add-ons would significantly improve the UI in that regard.

@SbernecchiaI totally agree about the space in chrome tab groups (I also use the simple tab groups extension) that's why I suggested this, as a second level of grouping tabs, in order to categorize the "unhidden" tabs. For me is a must because even if I have other groups.... in each group I need to categorize the subjects or the sites of the current group.

We should have the option for nested tabs. So from one tab, you can open multiple other tabs...

These new tabs then appear in their own tab bar below. That way you can some how try and keep 10's of tabs manageable.

Also, take a look into how Safari does tab grouping! Their approach is a little different, but really nice and clean 🙂

Tab grouping is the ONLY reason why I left Firefox for Vivaldi. I really don't like content tabs, I just want to put same tabs into the same group and give them a name - like, if I'm looking for a new bike, I'll open a couple of tabs and then put them together in a tab group that's called "New bike".

Tab management in my view is close to or already solved for the vertical case(I'll cover the horizontal one shortly).

One can have organization of "tasks" by marker tabs on the sidebar belonging to a single visible "window"/"project" and a "project view" tab or window that lists per project tasks (if project/window) selected.

For both cases of tab management, capable solutions exist to the grouping or projects view aspect.

In the horizontal case, there is missing on the (horizontal) tab bar the tasks/stacks collapsing(renaming etc.).

If interested please check for plenty more details including the extensions proposed and additional workflow suggestions on my post on tab management at the discussion "Organizing Information".

Most browsers have a way to see the tabs you have open on other devices, but something Safari does which I haven't seen anywhere else is cross-device syncing tab groups. Having the option to sync groups seems quite useful, especially between desktop and mobile. Tab groups also tend to encourage having many more tabs open at once than one would otherwise, so this would also help with sorting through the list of tabs open on other devices.

Let's approve this idea please! This is a feature that FF must have 'cause for a tabs user addicted like me is the reason why I'm not actually using FF. Thanks

I'm al long-term Firefox user. I also happily use Simple Tab Groups.

However, Tab Grouping like it is implemented in other browsers is sorely missing from Firefox and would be really useful.

Mozilla product managers, please give this top priority. This is a feature that one may expect from a power user browser! Or at least provide the APIs so add-on developers can build something similar.

Still waiting for the tab groups...

This feature is a must. Chrome tab grouping is a very good example.

Yep, totally agree. Tried to switch back to Firefox after a year away with chrome and just couldn't give up my ability to label and collapse tabs in the tab bar.

If containers can be combined with this function added I'll be back to being a Firefox daily user.

In my personal crusade to convince work colleagues and friends to use Firefox, the answer I get is almost always the same: "but the browser I use (Opera or Chrome in 90% of cases) is more comfortable and Firefox does not have tab grouping". Even though I love Firefox, I myself have tried to change browser several times just to manage better my tabs. Let's say that now the situation got better thanks to Simple Tab Groups, but we are not there yet... too cumbersome, poorly integrated with the UI and uncomfortable. This feature integration will be greatly appreciated and will give Firefox a big boost.

Thank you all for contributing to the idea!

Tab grouping

A suggestion could be the grouping of tabs for better control of the browser, since some users can manage more than 15 or 20 tabs, which they use randomly during the work day, this would help to have a better order in the browser.
