I'm personally a heavy tab user but have always wondered why there is almost no support for tab grouping or customization in the native tab bar in Firefox.

I think making it able to group like Google Chrome does for example or at least giving more access for extensions and add-ons would significantly improve the UI in that regard.

Migrating from Chrome to Firefox and ran into this wall. It may sound trivial but tab grouping could be a deal breaker foe me.

I really wish Firefox would add native tab grouping! They recently promoted the add on "one tab" on their Instagram (link below). Pretty funny tbh, the post points out how busy it can get when you have tons of tabs open, but tries to steer Firefox users to think this out-dated extension that groups all tabs into one long list is successful organization. Edge, Chrome, and Brave all have tab grouping. PLEASE ADD IT ALREADY - I would like to start using Firefox again.

Please make this a priority!

This is the main thing stopping me from switching from Chrome to Firefox. I've tried extensions but they're too clunky and unintuitive. Big support for this from me. 🙂

I was looking for answers about this on Reddit and Twitter. Didn’t know Mozilla connect was a thing.

This thread seems to be the on top of ideas thread. Any answer from developers before, giving a timeline or something ? I see the first message is almost 2 years old, but nothing has happened yet.

Chrome tabs groups are just perfect. Not having them in Firefox is a huge loss for me, and a no go for many people.

The add-ons are far from good, plus, with some companies computers you can’t install add-ons.

It’s been 2 years. Please, add this feature to Firefox.

Another person switching from Chrome and running into the tab grouping issue, which is a potential deal breaker. Please add this feature!

This is now long overdue. Especially for Firefox, which I think was the first one to introduce tab groups before scraping them.

I switched back to Firefox, which I've tried numerous times. One of the most important reason that I always switch away from it has to do with the fact that I use a lot of tabs. I keep tabs open for common sites that I go back to often or for projects. The number of tabs otherwise gets unweildy and there's no way to know what a tab is for when the tab sizes get so small.

If it's not going to be implemented, then I really want vertical tabs. I was trying that in Edge recently and it's very useful. With a wider monitor, you can easily see a lot of tab description and scroll thru tabs.

Lastly, I saw someone mentioned extensions to add tabs. GIven that my primary reason for using Firefox is privacy, I have no idea what extensions are secure and am hesitant to install them. For those who do use them, is there a way to know which are secure?

Grouping Tab feature in desktop

Dear Firefox team, could you please bring the grouping tab feature into the next version of Firefox? the tab size in Firefox is pretty big and it can be scrolled horizontally but my advice is that, for neatness reasons, You should bring that feature to Firefox. Thank you

SheldonBK, I think those that Mozilla marked as “recommended”

You can have vertical tabs using extensions, as for which are "secure"... You can look at permissions to get a rough idea of the kind of data they will access. For full overview you can only read the source code (or comments from someone who did / some security research paper)

Hate to admit it but based on this thread, I've started using Chrome. I know the business with Google knows all I do, but the tab feature is ridiculously good. So it's more valuable for me to organize my life than support Mozilla and Firefox (I'm one of those who actually sends money, real commercial quality software amounts, not just 5-10 bucks). And no, I haven't uninstalled Firefox, and I'll leave automated updates on, but these days, Chrome is getting more use. This is 100% due to the tab feature. I'm blown away how seriously nice it is to have these tabs organized for the first time in my life (yes, I'm one of those with 30-60 open tabs). Add to is, Mozilla doesn't need to reinvent the wheel, they just copy it exactly like Google has it implemented because I doubt they can improve it other than making it different just to be different. I pray they don't do that because if it works the same then convert can onboard Firefox more easily. This is called voting with my feet. Cheers!

Making moves
I think Mozilla devs, please consider seriously about adding Tab Group, it's a high time for us to have Tab Group because Chrome users are switching to Firefox, but the lack of Tab Group is making them go back. We can't waste another oppotunity, back then we got cocky, and Chrome surpassed us.

I do need this feature. I use Chrome at work for multi tasking on several projects; I personally use and love Firefox for its purpose but seriously, not having this is a deal breaker. When we see new browsers like Arc, having powerful categorization of tabs groups, spaces, not having this feature sounds like stone age. Sorry to be harsh and I can see the complexity of RAM management with sleeping tabs without killing the speed of Firefox but I really hope something is cooking for tab grouping
