I find it creepy to know that websites that I visit that don't need to know my exact location know for no absolute reason. But I don't trust a single free VPN nowadays, especially after reading most VPNS privacy policy. I know Mozilla has a VPN but it cost money, and its for your whole computer. I just wish Mozilla could make a browser VPN extension for free and leave the computer one to cost money. It would be amazing to know that websites couldn't know my exact location for no reason at all.

Hello,

Why do not offer a free VPN for all Firefox users as Opera already do ?

Some users want to benefit from audio/video offers from other countries which applied the geoblocking (like UK, USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, ....)

Thanks. Best regards.

It would be nice, but I'm afraid it's not possible for the following reasons.

  1. Mozilla is struggling to make money. So why would they offer a service for free? BTW, Mozilla VPN is a rebranded service from Mullvad. Mozilla actually pays Mullvad to use their network.
  2. When a company offers a service for free, YOU ARE THE PRODUCT. Opera probably sells your data, and that's against Mozilla's Manifesto.
  3. With Opera only your browser has access to the VPN while with Mozilla, the whole computer can access the VPN. This is important for software that doesn't run on a Web Browser.

Not sure about business, but at least Firefox users should be given preferential treatment.

Hi everyone!

Adding a VPN to Firefox as a permanent function with a location selection, as it was in the Opera browser, it would be very healthy, especially for countries where government structures block access to sites.

Best regards.

I am on a fixed IP address and have been for years.  I am regularly told by websites my location is a variation on places over a three thousand kilometer radius.  From the top of the country to the bottom.  My point is your geolocation for web sites is determined by your IP address and that location is only as good as the third party database used to locate it. In my case it comes within 3000 km.  I do note that US based addresses are far more specific,   but that is more about service providers registering certain addresses to towns and localities in various databases.

Personally I find Google does a much better job working out where I am using phone towers and GPS.  They generally can pinpoint me to a few metres, or at least my phone.

If Mozilla wants to do it, they can use the tor, with commercial part with more proprietary and high-quality VPN.

Hi everyone!

@interestintechthere is also the Firefox Private Network extension for just the browser. This is more like a proxy I believe whose back-end is Cloudflare.

Inclusion of free VPN

I have recently started to try Opera which has a built in Free VPN which is nice. I have however used Firefox for many years and am relucant to switch. A free VPN would be nice to have and would  probably help you to retain a higher user level. Anyway just a thought.

I think a good free VPN like opera should be produced and presented to the user.

Why doesn't mozilla produce its own free vpn?
