With the ability to move tabs currently in nightly it would also be nice to be able to group tabs the same way chrome does.

@JonI've spent the last little bit trying different mobile browsers (even borrowed an iPhone to try out Safari), and I think Chrome has the best implementation. For starters, you can long press on a link and choose to open it in a new tab inside or outside of the group. Some browsers required you to manual group them in the switcher and this was cumbersome when opening multiple links from one site. Additionally, being able to switch quickly between tabs in the group or open a new blank tab from the tab group bar is great for comparing and referencing information when in a workflow. Another important feature is how everything is laid out in the tab switcher. It's very easy to scroll between all the single tabs and groups on the switcher. It's also more information dense than a lot of the other browsers without being overwhelming. Finally, there aren't any extra button presses or menus to interact with to tab groups manually. I can just intuitively drag and drop them in the switcher to group them, reorder and dismiss single tabs and groups, or reorder within a group. When I do group them like this, I'm not bombarded with any pop ups to name or customise the group - I still have the option to, but a lot of my groups are short-lived and I'd hate to deal with a pop up interrupting me each time.

The only thing I could think of to add to Chrome's implementation would be the ability to colour code or highlight certain groups.

I really hope this gets implemented soon. This has been the only thing holding me back from using Firefox for years. I use tab groups extensively on mobile, and I need to be able to sync between mobile and desktop versions of my browser so I've been using Chrome on both platforms. I always assumed it would get added eventually, but ended up posting here out of frustration for the wait while dealing with Google's unsavoury practices.

Oh, authentication failure, just lost a big comment... :^(

@JonGlad to see you in this thread again. Is @ mentioning normal when answering such questions? Hopefully I'm not contributing to a flood of unnecessary notifications.

To sum up my previous comment, @Gur212 put it best—thank you, by the way. Speaking in regard to Android, Chrome wins, and it's not even close. Steer away from whatever Edge is doing. Vivaldi gets 2nd place for me, simply by not straying too far from Chrome, yet still adding its own touches.

When you borrowed the iphone to try safari, did you also try chrome for ios?

@Jonit seems to be an assumption that chrome is used on desktop and android. Hence why everyone says that chrome has tab groups. But on chrome for ios, i don’t have the option to drag tabs and i can only add them to reader or bookmarks. That’s why safari wins by a long shot for me.

Two years under consideration? Adding my pretty please to the record. How chrome allows one to drag tabs onto each other to group, and to the top to separate them is the best implementation. I wish Firefox had similar so I could deprive Google of my browsing information.

As iterated by other comments, Chrome does mobile tab grouping the best. I can consistently keep track of 100+ tabs on my phone with Chrome. Adding a comment to help this idea gain critical mass so it can become in development. (since tab grouping for desktop is already in development)

This is what I NEED for FireFox to truly be complete.

Grouped Tabs FireFox mobile (as Chrome does)

A MUST HAVE is “Grouped Tabs” in mobile EXACTLY as Chrome does: drag tab to another, create tab folder, and quickly switch between tabs from the bottom with a tab group bar (as opposed to the top search bar) as Chrome does. This would complete the FireFox experience. However, seeing that there are 2 year+ old posts requesting the same feature has me concerned I am speaking into a void that only echoes "I want that feature too." This is a MUST HAVE for everyone's Android (or other platform's) browsing experience in FireFox.

2 years and still nothing... That sucks. 😢

It's been 2 years and this still isn't even in development. What is the point of even having a mobile browser if it's so far behind everything else it's basically unusable?

I just don't get why this has to be developed for desktop before it can even start development for mobile when tab groups are way more necessary for a mobile browser since we can't open multiple windows.

@Jonare there any updates from the mobile team about implementing it? Even just a confirmation that they plan on adding it would be great. Especially for a feature that is actively preventing people from using FF.

@Jonsorry for various @ but we need an answer. The idea has been on here for two and a half years, I've been following it for at least 1 & ½ and no progress whatsoever has been made on one of the most popular topics in this forum.

The equivalent idea for Firefox desktop is in development, are we lucky enough that it means Firefox mobile is also being worked on? Is the dev team facing problems regarding the implementation of this feature or is our petition just being ignored if favour of the features that have been released over the last two years of updates?

I'm not sure if you're the only admin watching gover this forum and I hope my previous questions don't come as rude or demanding, I'm asking for a bit more feedback so we can know if this idea will progress further or if we should stop waiting for this feature to be included.
