F11 toggles fullscreen.

If you set 'browser.fullscreen.autohide' to 'false' in the about:config, you can have full width with tabs.

Would really appreciate a key-press like shift+F11 to toggle the tabs functionality.

Yes, i used this all the time on vivaldi (chrome based).
However your suggestion 'browser.fullscreen.autohide' to 'false' still leaves the address bar visible, which is a distraction as i want to read the pages and not open new ones.
On Vivaldi the bahaviour was that it was gone, but CTRL+L popped it up temporarily, so I could go to a new website, without the waste of screen space. I think I had to F11, then Shift+F11 to get there.
Please make it only one keypress on FF, ie Shift+F11
