I think the addition of Split Views is a great improvement for productivity, but I think there is definite room for improvement down the line. Things like horizontal splitting may be helpful, but I think a more useful option would be pinning one tab to one side and allowing users to switch the tab split to the side.

In terms of keyboard shortcuts, I think they could just assume if you're tabbing between them in the current order (e.g. tabbing in order will swap between the tabs either side of the two tabs but still allows interacting with the main pinned tab too), though I think a shortcut to focus on each tab view would be useful as way to be able to switch to a tab that isn't immediately next to it, but still interact with each side without having to sift through all in-between the pinned tab and the other tab.

Making moves

I left and deleted Google Chrome because of the location of their Splip View. Its where Firefox has theirs, above "Open Link In New Window".

They asked me why I left Chrome and I said because of where they placed their Split View above "Open Link In New Window".

Three weeks later I was able to reinstall Google Chrome because they moved their Split View under "Open Link In New Window", where it belongs.

I will say if you enable containers that the "open in new container tab" submenu appears between the two, so you have less room for error at least. I do agree though, I think open new tab -> new window -> new split view would make more sense than the current order.

I agree! That was the option I was immediately looking for when started using split view. How to lock one side and simple change tab on the other side! IMO the simplest way for user to change would be clicking on tabs to change them in an active pane.
