Here is what an auto-formatted indented list looks like in this idea submission box:

  1. Level 1 entry 1
  2. Level 1 entry 2
    1. Level 2 Entry 1
    2. Level 2 Entry 2

Ouch. Looks like it's true to Thunderbird and Mozilla norm? Because Thunderbird does exactly the same without the vertical space between Level 1 and Level 2.

My desire is to see autoformatting as I do in any office suite I have tried and which makes abundant sense to me. That is with each new indent level cycle through the styles. In Thunderbird I do this manually and it's tedious and I can achieve this (note this submission box won't even accept the following HTML! so I have to quote it naked, it renders fine in Thunderbird):

<ol>
<li>Level 1 Entry 1</li>
<li>Level 1 Entry 2</li>
<ol type="I">
<li>Level 2 Entry 1</li>
<li>Level 2 Entry 2</li>
</ol>
</ol>

Ironically when I select the style manually (Format > List > List Properties) the Number Style or Bullet style is by default Automatic. Which suggests it would do something automatically, but it doesn't. I'd almost call this a bug to be honest given the naming of the default setting which engenders the very thought of automating what I am doing manually selecting the next style down for each new level.

In any case I'd like to see indented lists automatically formatted as the setting claims so that each level has the next style down. It would be an even glossier feature if we could configure the order of the styles, but hey, let's not shoot for the moon.
