Firefox managed to bring HDR to Macs in 100.0 version. Now it's time for Windows!

It'd be awesome to watch and work on HDR images and videos using Firefox in 2022. Windows is the most popular OS, why not bring HDR here too?
More monitors and devices running on Windows support HDR, so there is an increase in demand of HDR support in Firefox.

The only option for Windows users is either to switch to another browser or to download and use a dedicated app from Microsoft Store.

It is rather sad that I need to keep another browser around for proper video support.

It would be really nice to have the ability to play HDR content in Firefox, instead of using Chrome for Youtube.

@itskaren @Jon Its been almost a year since this has been in development. When viewing the bug tracker for this the amount of movement seems pretty minimal. Shouldn't this be a higher priority when HDR content is much more widely available?

Is there something Mozilla needs from the community to make this happen?

So, It's 2025 now, HDR is slowly becoming a display standard. My phone has HDR, my new cheap gaming monitor has HDR, my tablet has HDR and even my foldable inner screen has HDR. By now, there's HDR everywhere, except one singular browser - Firefox.

Not gonna lie, this just might finally break my 10 years spree of being a firefox user.

It's getting beyond ridiculous at this point, if there were literally even a single other browser out there not based on Chromium I would have switched long ago on this is issue alone.

Mozilla know they've effectively got a monopoly on not supporting Google's monopoly and so they've clearly gotten lazy knowing anyone against Chromium enough to be on Firefox in the first place doesn't have a choice and are stuck with them.

Hey all,

Here with a quick update from the team:

It's being worked on, though things aren't moving very quickly (as you know) because of some other projects. But the good news is that we are aiming to release it by the end of the year.

Please do continue showing your support for the work, sharing feedback, and even nudging us for updates!

Holy moly, I recently moved from Chrome to Firefox, wanted to watch something on Plex (at which I've recently started adding 4K HDR content) and of course all colors washed out. Chrome works perfectly fine, shame firefox can't do it.

Finally. I recently acquired an OLED monitor and was considering switching away from Firefox because of its lack of wide gamut and HDR support. Glad to hear it's finally coming soon ™️

If it doesn't actually end up being implemented though... Yeah, guess I'll have to decide on a new main browser.
