Hello,

I would like to know if there is a possibility on the browser to implement the possibility to change the effects on Google Meet

Google Meet

Thank you very much

Jules

Salut, Jules!

Thank you for letting us know. We are actually in the middle of working to get better visual effects support in Google Meet - I will reconvene with our video conferencing engineering team after the holidays for a status update and follow up with you on a product update.

Have a safe, warm, and happy holiday and new year!

Hi, I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but full support for Google Meet is one of the most fundamental issues that prevents people from using Firefox. Google Meet is literally in my workspace the whole day, so it must work perfectly. It seems that this bug has been around for ages. Does the Firefox team understand that this should be a top priority?

I’d second @Julios_75 and @RoyAzr. I work in a Google Workspace based business and we use Google Meet and Chat a lot. I would much rather use Firefox for work, but Google Meet is probably the main reason I can’t, native tab groups aside.

I’d love to see Google Chat adding to Thunderbird and better compatibility with Meet in Firefox. I think the audio noise cancelling works, but tab sharing and auto-brightness are the two things I’d identify as priority.

That all said, it’s great that this is being looked into @kkim - thanks for the reply in this thread. I think it means a lot when employees respond here, so thank you! 😊

Hey @RoyAzr and @s1fly - thanks for the feedback. 100% with you on the frustration here - we want to make sure you all can get the basic videoconferencing functions we see in our work day-to-day. (As a fellow frequent tab sharer, I commiserate.)

Please note that Google Meet is a big priority for my team, and we've been working with Google to fill in some of the gaps you mentioned and get closer to a functional Meet experience in Firefox. We are working on a few bugs critical to the experience, so I will keep you posted here on improvements that come up as we make progress.

That's really news @kkim, thank you for sharing. It's good that Google are involved, as I guess some of Meet must be proprietory which makes it hard to work through without their input. Excited to hear more in the future and thank you again for keeping us updated!

Hi @s1fly@RoyAzr, and @Julios_75 - I am happy to say that Google has officially rolled out video effects to all Meet users on Firefox this week. Thank you so much for your patience. Video effects are a crucial part of the video conferencing experience, and we can finally get them on your screens.

Please give it a try, and let us know if you encounter any issues. (Bugzilla would be the fastest channel for us to receive and monitor problems.) Thank you again!

@kkim that’s fantastic news, thank you very much for posting the news here! Typically, I’m away this week but get I get back, I’ll be trying this out right away. Many thanks again, excited for this.
