It would be great to store the value of a checkbox to a bookmark, which could automatically open the related bookmark in a Private Window. Presently, one has to know in advance/remember it and must manually right-click the bookmark to select the "open in private window" option.

I was just looking myself to see if I could do this to my banking bookmark.

It is a great idea - I hope Mozilla run with this one and that I see it in an update soon.

Automatically open in a private window for selected websites

I would like to see an add-on that I can designate a bookmarked website to open in a private window when selected

Hi, thanks for submitting this idea, I'd love to know a little more about the use case. Typically private windows are used to avoid levaing traces of accessing a website (so that others accessing your computer cannot know what you browsed) but clearly here it does not seem to be your scenario given that you have it bookmarked.

Can you please clarify what is the value you get from private windows? Automayted cookie clearance?

I was thinking more like, I wanted to go to a website that I wanted to goto, where I dont want my actions recorded. Hence being deleted when I was done. Not so much as being hidden from a bookmark. If i wanted to go to a MAGA website and didn't want that information saved in history. I would click on it and it would appear in a private window and I wouldn't have to delete the last hour of my history to keep it hidden. I could click on another site ( without that option) say a site of the Demarcates and it would be saved in history. in a nut shell... I want an addon that lets me designate a site to appear in a private window, without going to a private window to open it. i hope this helps

Hi Rtestard, in reply to your comment:
whatever the reason for storing a "private" bookmark (there are many: no tracking, no cookies, no history), if the bookmarking is requested from inside a private window, Firefox should comply with the privacy commitment in full and restore the same situation when the bookmark is recalled later.
Basically, If there is an explanation for having private windows, there is also an explanation for storing bookmarks accordingly.

Hi @rtestard, in reply to your comment:
whatever the reason for a "private" bookmark (there are many: no tracking, no cookies, no history), the principle is that Firefox should remember the situation and, if the bookmark is recorded from inside a private window, it should reopen it in a private window in the future.
Put it simply... if there is a reason for having private windows, there is also a reason for having "private" bookmarks that fulfill the browser's privacy commitment.

@mb1Thanks for clarifying

Private Browsing deletes cookie data, visited pages, form and search bar entries, download list entries and cached content when you close the private window. Creating a bookmark on a private window will be retained when you close the private window and will be accessible from normal windows.

My confusion is around the scenario of saving bookmarks to only open them inside private windows - most people use private browsing to ensure that what they browse inside private windows cannot be seen by anyone accessing their computer - adding a bookmark makes this use case impossible and even though we'll clear the history a trace will always remain on your computer that signals that you use a specific site. Therefore I assume that the valuable piece for you here is that cookies and site data will be cleared automatically for this specific site.

There a a lot of misconceptions around private browsing making you anonymous online - perhaps your expectation is that you would want online anonymity when you browse specific sites that you bookmark in private windows? Unfortunately online anonymity is not delivered inside private windows - enhanced tracking protection helps block trackers regardless of your window type fyi but online anonymity cannot be claimed at this stage since it would involved other capabilities such as VPN (the VPN provider has to be trusted) or the ToR browser (significant useability trade-offs required to deliver a pretty good level of online anonymity).
