Firefox should save any unsaved documents in a temporary folder instead of Downloads folder. I don't want documents I'm viewing but not saving to show up in my Downloads folder. Preferably have the temporary folder on a hard drive or have a setting for where to save temporary files. My Downloads folder is for applications not documents.

When I open a file with an application, why is it also saved to my Downloads folder?
Before Firefox version 98, files you opened in Firefox with an application were also saved to the system Temp folder on Windows and Linux, even though you may not have been aware of it.

You can try
1-  Go to configuration editor https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox
2 - Enter a search term browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir
You can double-click on the preference to set the value to true
