Status: New idea

I don't think I'm the only one who has this need, i think all tablet users - or at least most - prefer to use Firefox in desktop mode, because many web pages viewed in desktop mode are more complete and better formatted.

Due to the spread of tablets, however, in multiple platforms, it also seems unlikely to me to be the first to present this idea . . .

So I wonder why even today Firefox for android does not allow the possibility to permanently set the desktop mode via switch.

In order not to be misunderstood, I am aware of the existence of the "Desktop site" button and its use. Unlike the functioning of this slider, I would like that in the settings of Firefox for android there was - for specific use on tablets - an option that changes the user agent from mobile to desktop, until revoked.

I'm not thinking of a plugin that would still be highly appreciated, but of an integrated feature in Firefox.

Is it possible to consider this implementation?

I add an idea/request omitted in OP: it would be wonderful if by activating the desktop mode by default from the settings, you could see a button that allows you to switch the desktop/smartphone mode directly from the top application bar.

Ios user here. There needs to be a way to force desktop mode as well on sites that decide they know better than the user.  Even on my phone mobile sites are unusable. You can't see anything because they've blown it up so much. I'm not spending that much time to find something simple because modern developers think everyone using the device is over eighty years old.

I don't know just how one "votes" for this change but, in case it's just by saying so in the "Comments" well, consider me as voting for it!!

The Memeorandum site is my preferred new aggregator and, in the desktop mode, it shows not only the "prime" news story or report but, underneath and subordinate to that prime item, similar or different takes on the report are listed by site.

The mini site for small screens is all different and mashed around and it's difficult to get at the different reporting pov's (p's ov?...quien sabe?). Anyway, I'd REALLY like to have the option to select the Desktop View and it STAY selected.

Believe it or not, Firefox (Android) is the only mobile browser does NOT have this feature.

So many Firefox fans want this feature (if you search the Connect Ideas), wondering why it's so hard…

I just got a Samsung Tab S8. Firefox mobile on a large screen is terrible. All my browsing is on Firefox, desktop, phone, and now tablet. All connected together, but the experience on tablet is the worst.

Please put tablet UI/UX top priority.

I read recently that Google is producing a tablet again.  While their tab may be a ChromeTab, they might have to make some changes to Android so it isn't so phone-centric.  And hopefully websites and FireFox will adapt to changes.

i agree, a lot of mobile websites force you to "try the app" with popups or have an infinite scroll layout (yuck). i really prefer desktop mode and mozilla already has a desktop mode built in that works more reliably than a user agent spoofer, i just want it to stay toggled on. i bet there are many other people who want this too

I don't understand the proble to intall the same switch in the settings of Fierfox 4 Android.

The settingswitch can use for permanent and the pulldowswitch can switch it for 1 website.
