Dear Mozilla Firefox Team,

I would like to submit a feature request to introduce more granular, domain-specific privacy and data management controls in Firefox. My proposal consists of two main features that would be highly beneficial for both regular users and developers:

1. Automated Data Deletion on Tab Close (Per-Domain)

  1. Implement a setting that automatically clears all site-related data when closing a tab for a specific domain.
  2. Support wildcard configurations for subdomains (e.g., *.example.com).
  3. Allow users to choose exactly which data points are deleted (e.g., selectively clearing browsing history, session data, or cache).

2. In-Window Private Tabs and Domain-Specific Private Modes

  1. Introduce a "New Private Tab" option that opens within the current browsing window, removing the need to open a completely separate Private Browsing window.
  2. Allow users to configure specific domains to automatically open in this "Private Tab" mode.
  3. Provide detailed settings for these domains regarding the handling of local data structures, such as IndexedDB.

These enhancements would be a significant step forward for customizable privacy and provide excellent debugging tools for web development.

Thank you for your time and your continued great work on Firefox.

@Horus_Sirius heads up, a similar request to your "in-window private tabs" has already been posted to Connect here: Private tab instead of window

Thanks, Job, for all your hard work managing everything—including tracking down duplicate posts.

2022 feels like a long time ago now—four years, in fact.

I would definitely tackle this issue; it would truly be a "unique browser" feature—and I assume others would eventually copy it.
I realize that running a separate Windows process for "private" browsing offers a bit more security, but for most users, automatically clearing tabs immediately after closing them should be a perfectly sensible solution.

I would also be open to the inverse approach: clearing *everything* by default, with the exception of a specific list of "allowed" browser tabs that are permitted to use cookies and similar data.
