Status: New idea

Dear Firefox Developers and Community,

I propose an enhancement to Firefox's multi-account container tab navigation: hotkey combinations for opening links in designated container tabs, either in the foreground or background.

Here's an example of how this might work:

  • Ctrl/Cmd + 1 + Left Click on a link: Opens the link in a new tab within container #1 in the foreground.
  • Ctrl/Cmd + 1 + Middle Click on a link: Opens the link in a new tab within container #1 in the background.

These hotkey combinations would allow for immediate and intuitive sorting of new tabs into their appropriate containers, increasing efficiency and organization in browsing sessions.

I believe many Firefox users would benefit from this functionality. Thank you for considering this suggestion.

To supplement this idea, I recommend adding:

  • Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + Left Click on a link: Opens the link in a new tab within the same container in the background.

Sites opened in a container, that is NOT their assigned container, would then not be opened in their assigned container and the Multi-Account interstitial would not need to appear and ask whether to open in the same container or in the assigned one — contributing to streamlining the user experience, as well.
