Enable using a phone as passkey

I am happily using passkeys via a fido2 stick with fingerprint sensor since quite some time now for sites where it is supported and the number is growing. I am truly convinced that this is the technology that will finally free us from passwords once and for all! But I also know the normal user, for whom buying an additional device for logging in is far too much friction to ever use it. My (technologically savvy) girlfriend looks at me logging in with my fido2 stick and want to do the same without having to get such a key. She already has her phone that can act as a passkey authenticator! On Chrome(ium) using a phone as the passkey works like a charm (for the interested: yes, also on Linux. I am using Linux most of the time). I and may other people would love to be able to use our phones for passkey authentication also with firefox!

It would be awesome!

Is it possible to donate directly bound to adding a feature like this?

This is a great suggestion! Yes, as we continue to adopt more credential management solutions, we intend to grow our support for passkeys. To be clear, I am not aware of any plans for Firefox to store or issue Passkeys, but the intention would be for it to enable you to use your on-device or hardware-stored passkeys for the cases you described. Sorry, I don't have a timeline for you, but I know the work is underway!
