The absense of a mail client on Linux able to natively read Microsoft .msg and .pst files would be a really great help. This is one of the most common issues on Linux and has not been addressed since decades.

I think that would be a huge help for a programmer to implement a PST import capability in Thunderbird, that would be incredibly useful in office environments to be able to make the switch from MS Outlook to Thunderbird.
I use the ImportExportTools NG add-on, which allows exporting messages to MBOX format, although it would be nice if Thunderbird supported this natively. This applies not only to exporting but also to the bulk importing of messages—for instance, when backing up or restoring accounts.
