I prefer to not send a name with my emails but only the email address itself. This is possible with Thunderbird Android by editing Account settings -> Sending mail -> Composition defaults and removing "Your name", which was set during the initial setup. This workaround works fine, but I think the field could just be made non-mandatory during account setup.
This would also comply with a display name being optional according to RFC 5322.
