Cut icons for sites

I want to remove icons for individual website links. I never use them to find a link (because I sort each list of links alphabetically) and they just use a huge amount of vertical space, so a long list is painful to use. I can't see any way to change the current setup so suggest you just keep folder icons, that's how Firefox used to work and it worked fine.
