With version 98.0 the saving of .exe files won't ''ask me'' if i want to save the file like in previous versions.I read that the default saving attitude now is auto-saving. I have changed to ''always ask'' most of my content type like it was before, but the .exe type is missing. Please fix this on next version because a misclick - autosaving a .exe file can make things pretty bad. I have tried finding the ''Old Firefox'' folder in order to replace my old prefs.js but i guess newer versions have stopped using that folder. So please fix it.

I wouldn't say it requires "more clicks" since the whole point is to limit how much interactions downloads require to initiate, but I too do value the option to be asked whether I want to save a file from download or not. Or sometimes I just want to open a file as a temporary download and have that download cleaned out upon closing the browser.

I can live with the current system, but the old system was something I admired compared to chromium browsers that just downloaded automatically and gave you little time to cancel.

Yes, it is really annoying - having to close download pop-up box EVERY TIME I DOWNLOAD SOMETHING 😞

At least have it as option to NOT have it...

I do not want all my downloads saved in my "downloads" folder. Please give us the option of putting files in the "temp" folder, as we could prior to this update. Thank you.

The new downloading method is a disaster and extremely annoying. One of the best things about Firefox before this new method was how unobtrusive the downloading was without pestering users with an annoying popup screen like other browsers do. I also want to choose where downloads go because I frequently save them to different places. This must be reverted or made an option that is easy to change.

In the meantime, you are able to revert by opening Firefox and typing "about:config". Then click on “Accept the Risk and Continue” button.

1. Type improvements in Search filter box and look for following preference in the window:

browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel

The preference value is set to true by default, which means the new automatic download behavior is activated and enabled in Firefox.

2. Deactivate and disable the new behavior and restore classic download prompt feature by double-clicking on the browser.download.improvements_to_download_panel preference and set it to false.

The dialog window whether to open a file or to save it was the main reason I've used Firefox for so many years. Why did you turn it off? Why do you still have the option in the settings "always ask" if it stopped working? I set "always ask" for all types of files but it still doesn't work and only offers to save it. I don't want to save files I don't need. I'm super upset.Untitled.png

This feature is a security and privacy issue.  It means that when using a shared or public computer, my personal information is saved to hard disc.    This browser has even hijacked my bank's on-line software where, when asked if I want to View or Download transactions, choosing "view" still downloads them. How thoughtless.  This feature needs to be removed or improved to give users the option the way it was before.  This is urgent.

Can you explain some more.

So i can understand  what you dont like about it, i cant see changes that make me have to click extra.

@Keith_Rchoosing "view" always had to download files, though it was done into the tmp folder which could get automatically cleared sometimes (or not).

Thus security wise it doesn't change anything but I agree that it was still better , I'm already tired of deleting torrent files in my download folder.

WTF!  After all these years of download/open with working just fine, Firefox suddenly completely changes how it works, and the developer needs to "understand more".  Just put it back the way it was.

My downloads directory is now full of crap that I do not want there.  Just what in the world is the problem you were trying to solve?

Thanks to Ujudkma for finding a solution to this fiasco.
