Check to see what the most popular add-on are

This was a draft I neglected to post over a year ago.  Unfortunately, it's still relevant as I just learned due to performing a TB install on a new machine.

I didn't really know where to put this, but as an early adopter of Thunderbird (oh so many years ago), I see new versions come out that end up disabling seemingly very popular add-ons time and time again.  

1.  At the very least, could we get a warning (updating to version xx.x will disable the following add-ons) so we don't find out about it AFTER we update and have a choice?

2.  Maybe ensure the most popular add-ons are added to newer versions, or at least offer the add-on developers an option to get ahead of the curve.  I don't consider myself a super-user, but it seems nearly EVERY major update in decades has broken something I use daily.  I know I can't be the only one.  Sure, the add-on developer gets it fixed, or the feature is integrated into the program eventually, but that seems counterintuitive.
