Progressive Web apps are an important feature of a browser that Firefox is the only one missing.
For some, it can be the reason to switch to another browser.
In other cases like for the Steamdeck, it's what imposed the choice to only include Chrome in the SteamOS interface.
Other problem even for avid Firefox users, since I wanted Social apps on my pc I had to get them on the Microsoft Store which is an Edge PWA that opens every link in an Edge window, making me use this... other browser.

Yes, and it would be extra wonderful if they supported cookie containers

Please bring PWA back, it is so useful!

100% this. I'm using chromium for now, but I'd LOVE to use firefox for these. PWA's are especially important to Linux users where PWA developers don't have to make an app specifically for our OS, we can just install the PWA!

For desktop PWA’s, you can use this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pwas-for-firefox/

Of course native support would be better, and this addon isn’t a solution for non-dev users given it requires CLI to install, but I suspect it’ll be enough for many people here. I’m using it and it suits my needs once I got past the fiddly setup.

Desktop PWA support is the only thing stopping me switching to Firefox.

Download Websites as Apps

This is how the feature works: for example, you go into the Mozilla website then you want to download it as an application into your local computer. When downloaded, the application will automatically go into a folder that Firefox will create which is called Firefox Apps or Mozilla Firefox Apps; the directory where the app is gonna be installed can also be picked by the user.

How to delete an app: If the user wants to delete an application, there will be 3 dots or the "menu" at the top of the window and there, there will be an option called Uninstall <AppName> which is, by the name itself, will uninstall the application. When clicked, there will be a popup which is a checkbox if the user wants to clear the data of the app.

Additional features (each additional feature will be found on the menu):

  • Automatically check for updates (by default; this could also be unchecked by the user)
  • Reset application
  • Open website (which will redirect the user to the website that was downloaded as an app)

This feature is also available on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.

Firefox not submitting to the will of Google and Microsoft is a feature, not a bug. If PWAs are so important to you, you should use Edge or Chrome. That leaves people who've had enough of PWAs, like me, to enjoy to use #Firefox. If Firefox were to go back on their promise, there'd be no browsers left that haven't been infected with PWA support. Firefox is offering an important service to people.

Please please bring back this feature. I don't trust chrome but want to use PWAs. Thanks.

I really wanna switch to Firefox for all my browsing, but not being able to share state (mainly sign in state) between my main browser and my installed PWAs is a dealbreaker for me.

Saw this on trending. Supported.

Will this give you options to install it only for you? Or also install for other users on your local computer?

Yes, @ColeM. By default, it will be installed only for you, but there's also an option to install it for other users which will require admin privileges.
