In past when I bookmarked a link I could've added description or notes to it.

the type of notes I used to add to Description field:

  • where I learned about the website/link.
  • What that page or utility does
  • for some shopping sites, I would add the restriction of that websites, for example the minimum order, the locations they delivered to, what is the delivery cost etc.
  • Specially if it is outdated website, I add Issues that the website had and workarounds.

It is just useful when you needed it. right now I add these to the Name field. But it is not that efficient .

This is sadly one of the symptoms of modern software's attempts to "dumbing down" of the end-user. Firefox used to be customizable, innovative and beautiful, and with XUL and open-minded developers, was unchallenged. But WebExtensions severely limited the ability of a user to personalize his/her browser, while the monsters behind modern architectures (Micro$oft, Smaug—er, I mean "Smoogle" and similar conglomerates) sing the praises of buzz word features like "minimal" and "modern", which means simple and stagnant. You can no longer tweak software to your heart's content, hack on it like you used to be able to, to customize it for yourself. It seems the big companies nowadays either don't trust their customers to do so, or just think they are too stupid to know how to do so without ruining their system. What an insult. And this extends far beyond simple browser software. You can barely decide where you want to install you application any more. Google search used to have several pages of configuration settings, allowing you to use the search engine the way that works best for you. Now there are a grand total of 5 or 6 settings. Same with YouTube. And thus, in the name of "progress" and "user-friendliness" (the latter a disgusting euphemism for user-stupidity) we have lost more and more features, like the simple yet very useful folder description field for our bookmarks.
