Automatically close tab for Wifi login

When connecting to a public wifi that requires some form of acknowledgement page ("login" or I believe it's technically called a "captive portal"), Windows will open a tab in the default browser (in this case Firefox) to perform this step, but then that page is simply left open in the browser.

Please implement logic to automatically close such tabs once the interaction has been completed. I believe this should be possible because, for example, my Android phones do it with their internal browser when connecting to Wifi, as does the Nintendo Switch.

I agree, this would be a nice little quality-of-life improvement. When Windows opens Firefox just for a captive portal, there isn’t much reason to leave that tab sitting there after the Wi-Fi login has finished.

It would be especially useful on hotel, airport and public Wi-Fi where you may have to repeat the process regularly. Firefox could detect that the captive portal check has completed and close the temporary tab automatically, while still leaving the option to keep it open if needed.

If you’re troubleshooting a public Wi-Fi connection, it can also help to check the router/gateway address assigned to the device.
