When saving files with the same name, a number will be added automatically. You save the first file with the name "picture", when you save the second one, (1) will be added there, it will look like this: "picture (1)", and then there will be names "picture (2)", "picture (3)", " picture (4)" and so on.

please please please, I BEG YOU this is the one thing that makes me want to switch back to chrome or any other browser that has this feature, think about it, you right click a video and take a snapshot, then you right click again and take another snapshot, the file will have the same name "snapshot", what is this logic? why ask every single time for the name, just name it 1 2 3... also have you tried it? the windows dialog makes it even worse because sometimes you have to click the name (in the bar) twice in order to be able to start typing the name, it's an extremely long and clumsy system

I save images all day long and Firefox is really really bad for not having this feature, especially after several years of being requested.

I use an other browser when I have to save images...

it is year 2026.
I say it in cleartext: ONLY BECAUSE OF THIS FUNCTION MISSING I HAVE TO SWITCH TO ANOTHER BROWSER each single time I have to download images.

As I program, I know that in reality to activate this function you would need to change like 4-6 lines in source code. This function is already built in. You would just have to allow "save without asking" routine to run before saving it in "aways ask"-mode (without actually saving) to find out how the file-name should be pre-renamed. Then the "save as" dialogue would have to open with pre-renamed file as file name suggestion.

Whole code IS already fully programmed and inside Firefox.  What is forbidding you to activate it? Some ideology of not allowing users to decide for themselves?
Was not firefox meant to be user friendly, free, open and cofigurable? When did you stop listening to us?

my lengthy comment got lost. this "comment lost" error is still not fixed in 2026.
considering this function: the code for it is already inside source code but not activated.

I ready somewhere that for some IDEOLOGY reasons they will never add this function no matter what to be distinguishable from Chrome and Edge.

This feature needs to seriously get in. I waste 5 seconds for every image that has the same name by manually adding numbers next to them. I just want it to save images to the save folder without getting asked to choose a folder and change the overlapping names.

Just install Opera to decrease your cortisol levels, because their plan is to not fix it, ever.
