When developing Firefox extensions using temporary add-ons, changing source files usually means manually reloading the extension.

It would be useful if Firefox could optionally watch the temporary extension's files and automatically reload it when changes are detected.

For example:

  • Load a temporary extension from about:debugging

  • Enable Auto Reload

  • Firefox watches the extension's directory

  • When manifest.json, background scripts, content scripts, popup files, etc. change, Firefox automatically reloads the temporary extension

  • Optionally provide a short debounce delay so multiple file changes don't cause repeated reloads

This would make the built-in temporary-extension workflow much closer to a modern development workflow, without requiring an external tool just to handle automatic reloading.

A manual Reload button should remain available, with auto-reload being an opt-in developer feature.
