Betterbird is a soft fork of mozilla thunderbird that fixes many bugs and adds a few features. It works well with over 500 folders and supports the linux system tray. It also supports multi line view just like in lotus notes and outlook. It fixes numerous bugs that still linger in thunderbird and is an all round better experience. I would like to see these patches back ported to thunderbird before the new redesign releases.

I am using Betterbird for 2 weeks now (Linux, MacOS). The performance problems of TB are finally gone. Betterbird is as responsive as good ol' Seamonkey. global-messages-db.sqlite doesn't have to be deleted anymore. Those weird EMails sent on 01-01-1970 TB lists sometimes are gone, too. And the menu line is finally on the top again, as usual for tons of other apps (incl. Firefox).
